Guide to Trang

Here it is, the most Comprehensive Guide to Trang. On the Internet.

From research this is believed to be the first site of it's kind on the web today (first-one). There will be a Hotel and Resort guide to follow. Also a behaviour guide of do's and don'ts. Thailand is a minefield. Also a introduction to Thai. And only in English pronounced Thai (S-O-R-R-Y).

Where is Trang?
What is Trang?
Why is Trang?

Why a guide on the Internet. Why me? Well I have been living in Thailand for two years. The majority of people who know me, don't seem to know quite where Trang is. And have little of no understanding of the difficulties that can be faced when coming to a country such as the Kingdom of Thailand. When I arrived I made every mistake imaginable. I have learned something about this truly beautiful county by just being here. I stayed because I fell in love with the sunsets. In Thailand everybody smiles; it's as if they are all one step ahead of the rest of the world, like they all know the big secret. I am beginning to catch on; and I hope you will too.

Unlike most Cities/towns Trang has been born three times. Moved twice, ot so easy by any means. Why is Trang named Trang. I like the third theory on the origination of the name. "Trang-Kae" a Malaysian word, which means "dawn" or "the day comes". This is most apt; and truly suits Trang.

Thailand is a Buddhist country approximately 95% of the population is Buddhist. To try understand any culture one must learn something about the beliefs of the said culture. For this a person can study, do research. But reading only lets you look briefly, without the chance to feel. Enlightenment can't be described.  Or as I was once told me. "Driving lessons will teach you how to pass your driving exam; after you've passed your test. You learn to drive, by driving".
- John Fisher (London Borough of Hounslow, UK, 1988). My driving instructor, and he was right.

As there very few foreigners living here. I am easy to find. When you arrive ask for me by name. "Mr. Jim" I will be happy to show you around, I guess I will see you when you get here.

Hope to see you soon.

I have tried to keep to the original text of the Translation as much as possible. However when translating from Thai some of the splendour had to be removed. This is because for some Thai words & phrases the is no direct translation. This is an on-going work and your comments would be truly welcome. Please also note I am Dyslexic, I expect I have have made some grammatic errors. I will try to correct these as they become apparent. As to the nature of my disability I have reading writing problems associated with dyslexia, sequencing problems and hearing dyslexia.

Final Word.

Yikes! Yes a final word, it's sounds so final. I have lived in Thailand (Trang) for more than two years. After I decided to stay I started the long (near impossible) task of looking for work. The majority of foreigners who work in Thailand have been brought in to do specific tasks. Some stay on, some don't, and a quite few marry and settle in Thailand. If I had stopped to think about the difficulties of staying here I wouldn't have tried.
